PlaRt-bio / vernissage / public display

Welcome to PlaRt-bio.

PlaRt-bio is the public-facing side of the BioArt work: a space where plant biology, fluorescence, viruses and gallery viewing meet. The exhibition material was presented with Kevin Sartori and Alessandra Lombardi, inviting viewers to encounter laboratory processes as visual culture.

The exhibition route

The page follows the event sequence: welcome and collaborators, exhibition material, voting and public display, and finally the Hidden Gaze installation where the image changes with the light.

01 / WELCOME

Opening PlaRt-bio

Plant biology · art vernissage · collaborators

PlaRt-bio introduces BioArt as a conversation between scientific practice and public interpretation. The project brings plant biology images out of the laboratory context and asks visitors to look at infection, fluorescence and experimental material as works with their own visual language.

The 2025 edition was presented with Kevin Sartori and Alessandra Lombardi, whose participation framed the event as a shared exhibition rather than a single-author image archive.

Format

The vernissage makes the experiment social: viewers can compare pieces, discuss the science behind them and vote for the images that speak most strongly to them.

02 / MATERIALS

Exhibition material

Prints · installation views · plant-virus images

The exhibition material connects the finished images to the conditions in which visitors encountered them. Prints, wall arrangements, labels and installation views turn the laboratory image into something that can be approached, compared and discussed in public.

PlaRt has had two editions represented here: PlaRt 1 in 2024 with the first plant-virus fluorescence works, and PlaRt 2 in 2025 with the Hidden Gaze installation and expanded gallery documentation.

03 / PUBLIC DISPLAY

Voting and public display

Audience interaction · favorite pieces · gallery documentation

The voting material turns spectators into part of the installation. Instead of presenting scientific images as fixed illustrations, the vernissage asks viewers to choose, compare and give attention to the images as aesthetic objects.

That public layer matters because the works are built from scientific material that is often judged only by measurement. In PlaRt-bio, the same material also carries surprise, color, humor and personal preference.

04 / INSTALLATION

The Hidden Gaze installation

Visible light · UV light · installation toggle

The route closes with the Hidden Gaze installation, where the same work changes when the light changes. In visible light, the leaf surface and exhibition setting dominate. Under ultraviolet illumination, GFP fluorescence and sunscreen-blocked areas reveal the hidden image.

The installation makes the central idea of the BioArt series physical: the picture is not only in the object, but in the relationship between the biological material, the light and the viewer's act of looking.
